What are the advantages of friction stir welding processing

Publishdate:2023-11-28  Source:  Views:470

Friction stir welding process is a new welding technology, it is mainly the use of high-speed rotating stir rod for friction stir welding materials, the formation of stable friction heat to make the material partially melt, and then the high-speed rotation of the stir rod will evenly stir the liquid material, and finally form a complete weld. Compared with traditional welding methods, friction stir welding has the following advantages:

1. Able to weld a variety of materials. Friction stir welding process can weld a variety of materials, including aluminum alloy, titanium alloy, magnesium alloy, copper and its alloys and other metal materials, but also can weld nickel, zirconium alloy and plastic materials and other non-metallic materials.

2. No protective gas is required. In the traditional welding method, it is often necessary to use inert gases to protect the welding area, but the friction stir welding process does not need to use protective gases, and the heat generated during the process can be naturally dissipated.

3. Excellent welding performance. The number of welding areas heated by friction stir welding processing is small, and the temperature rise is relatively small, which can reduce the size of the heat affected zone, thereby reducing the thermal deformation and grain growth of the material, and achieving the effect of forging and tempering the material. After friction stir welding materials, the resulting weld interface structure is dense and has the characteristics of high quality welding.

4. Friction stir welding plant does not need additional materials. In the friction stir welding process, no additional finishing, grinding and other operations are required, thus saving the related manufacturing costs and time.

5. Shorten production cycle. The friction stir welding processing speed is fast, and the welding can be completed in a short time, so the production cycle can be shortened and the production efficiency can be improved.
